NEWS: today the what's going on....pick your front...
Let's face it: it can be hard to find good news some days. The President didn't want to expand health care for children: hopefully he won't veto the new bill. College students will get a better loan deal ( a definite plus). Most of the coverage on the Jena 6 does not include the many great speakers seeking justice in America. Just remember there are thousands of people talking they are real and have legitimate concerns.
Couldn't quickly find an update on the progress of the UAW strike.
The IRaq and global warming news articles are getting more and more bizarre! There were too many articles to print tonight. We have sent several hundred thousand men and women to Iraq. Many returned severely injured: brain damage being high on the list. The numbers aren't always present. We aren't providing adequately for their needs. The cost of war for both sides is exploding faster than most realize.
My minister says,"It's good to read the news, you know what to pray for." Remember too, there's an awful lot going on in the world that we don't really get much or good coverage on. Remember, it not just about US.
I wanted to include 2 more stories but couldn't find them here at the News Room. Go to Aol and see if you can find the story on beauty pageant winners not receiving scholarships: beauty queens beware!
Also: the story about Bush wanting to make cuts in social security and increase taxes! More on these stories soon!
Ok, I looked for stories in the obvious places. All report the happenings, and relate it to old rallies. None go deeper, or reflect on the significance of African Americans needing to come together. There is a far greater depth to the issues at hand. Also to the issues Americans are dealing with today. Please feel free to give your analysis.
Frankly to say that there is no connection to the incidents that have happened really missed the target. OPen your eyes attorney. Open you eyes America! I am proud to see African Americans standing up again, it's long overdue. This is not just a cover story for a day or 2, it's a call to action. Plus perhaps people working together can keep working on the issues that go far below the surface of what we see today. Please add your thoughts. Mary
Just in case you are wondering: where did all the arms go?
Some say follow the money. Short story: the war game and profit industry is thriving, and seems bound to keep growing. Acquisitions and repurchase of stock means a few of the bigwigs will make all the more money. War=profit. Nothing new, just today's state of affairs. Play your war game: follow the money.
Also if your kids lost billions of dollars of your hard earned tax dollars would you ask why? It isn't just the National Guard...tiptoe through all the services. Visit a Blackwater accounting room. Who is doing anything about this? The Congress and President Bush KNOW about this.
My question who is the recipient of all these weapons? And other equipment. And is there a hot black market for old US stuff? What a profit! Please comment.
Hot Stories: Did you see this? How can this town find healing?
Though this tastes of the sixties, the worse part is it's all about now. Some people still don't get it, and the insensitivity of the town, school officials, and the USA creates major disappointment to most citizens, I hope.
OK, three articles, complicated stories, and considerable controversy: what do you think and why? Could this happen in your town? What do you think should be done? Any solutions? Comment to me. Thanks.
Very few Americans will ever forgot their feelings from 9/11. Six years later, what can we offer to all the world, to each other, and to the families who lost loved ones. This is a good time to reflect, pray, and ask for guidance for what is needed tp provide healing now.
The headlines are often of war, sickness, and bigger budgets for more war. Perhaps we have lost perspective. Perhaps healing requires more than continued deaths. Perhaps we have forgotten the pleas of the families who suffered the greatest loss.
What can we do to heal the nation? Read on to a few stories circulating now. What do you think. Please leave comments. Thank you.
In an article no longer available: U.S. has spent 610 billion dollars on wars since 9/11 The United States has spent 610 billion dollars on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and on protecting its bases worldwide since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, a report released by the Congressional Research Service ( CRS) on Monday said. Here's the headliner, and then a few comments, plus more news.
How many of you remember this incredible story, a wrinkle in time? If you never read it, read it, or read it again. It was a big hit for college students in the seventies. What i found helpful in this article, was the short comment about how many times she had to submit the story to publishers. I believe this is an important message to writers and all artists: don't give up and don't underestimate the power of your words! Or song, or vision, or dream.
In fact if you have some short works, poetry, or inspirational story, feel free to post it here in our comment section. Or if you are already blogging, leave that in the comment box.
Another author I admired, May Sarton, also ended up in a nursing home and recorded most of her last novel while there during her last year of life! Let us take up the gift and continue and add to such strong people! Mary
Here's a fun example of a new adventure from the 21st century!
I bet this will make a romantic hot and deep movie. I hope there are a lot of great dance scenes!
Am I cliche'?, I am an easy one for great ballet, the arts, and master performers. These stories give a nice shift of focus.
Some old news
MISC NM:
OLD STORY: I did a search for New Mexican Musicians and found a lot about MEXICO, and Californian news: zilch about New Mexico and their musicans! In case you don't know, New Mexico is still a STATE of the USA!
L Pavortitti probably opened more hearts to opera in the last 30 years or so than any other tenor. Ah to have been fortunate enough to listen to him! Shock to lose him so early. Please read on...
May he sing with angels and rest in peace. May we find joy in all his recordings! Bless him! Mary
A little entertainment is a fun way to start this blog. Let me dig up some interesting news too.
I tried looking for a positive story. Not much of that in my source place. However, as autoimmune disease treatment is often nebulous: simply hard to find, it's good to know there may be treatments.
Some culture? Ah Oui, remember, c'est na pa? (So much for faking French) This could be uplifting.
